markie is a audiovisual artist, writer, and producer living halfway between Philadelphia and New York City. They began making electronic music in 1995 as The Model. A handful of tape cassette recordings, borrowing as much from the Bronx as Berlin, became the impulse and soundtrack for a run of dance-art-conceptual-costume-parties held in various North Philadelphia warehouses between 1997 and 2004. These performance art productions were at times coordinated with up to 20 artists and assistants, anchored by some central concept or theme, with DIY-designed costume changes, audiovisual installations, in vivo painting and sculpture, social experiments, philosophical pamphlets and live performances by The Model. Following a self-released electronic-rock concept album, entitled Darkness Within Darkness. After a brief hiatus to tour with their childhood friend in Crystal Skulls, and help out with live bass playing for their sister Juliet's major label solo debut, markie returned to Philadelphia to explore the medium of more traditional recording and touring. The Model reemerged as a synth-pop-art, and came to enjoy an energetic local following in both Philadelphia and New York City.
On the heels of their successful release of Physical, first as an EP in 2006 on Touch It Movement and later re-released with three additional songs as a full-length album via Playloop Records, markie met and began working with singer-songwriter Elizabeth Harper for Class Actress. This collaboration proved to be a longterm and rewarding one, leading to over 50 million combined streams on Spotify alone, positive Pitchfork Reviews like this and that, and a number of songs licensed for visual media including television episodes of Gossip Girl, Barry, Cheer as well as a growing number of additional placements.
in the past two years, markie has completed an producing and mixing an album with his sister, Juliet, while also handling creative design for single and album artwork as well as video concepts. They've gone on to produce a community-based song with Canadian singer-songwriter Chad Price and a school in Atlanta for the nonprofit collective Greater We, while having some of their electronic musical work placed in a new film written and directed by Michael Mailer (son of the late Norman Mailer).
markie continues to collaborate with other artists and songwriters, while also creating new work under the heading of experiment-collective-label House Of The Model. In late 2021, he released a collab track with former Playloop owner and dj-producer Justin Paul for Underground Sol (The Model "Little Dreams"), which was remixed by artists across the dance-electronic music spectrum such as Void Vision, Naked Highway and André Obin. Today, markie continues to collaborate with artists and songwriters, while also fronting markiemodel, a 90s-alt-synth-sludge act that is currently releasing music and giving high energy projection-drenched performances in the New Hope-Lambertville area. In April 2026, their music video for the song "croydon cis," made in collaboration with the visual fx artist @glitchglasses, was made an official selection for the Philadelphia Music Video Showcase hosted by the some of the city's leading filmmakers and artists. Some of their recent audiovisual work has been shown at Lume Studios in New York City, and can be found in digital galleries such as Objkt and Foundation well as featuring on their Instagram and YouTube channel.
